Since introducing the gearmotor in 1931, we have been bringing the best in drive technology to our customers. That commitment has led to a history of innovations — the first variable speed gearmotor, early development of electronic drives, some of the first successful efforts to decentralize control and the first motor with energy-efficient copper rotors. Our extensive range has now expanded to include geared motors, frequency inverters, large industrial gear units, decentralised systems and servo technology, not to mention motion control and a range of related software.
SEW-EURODRIVE's range of motors and drives create motion in a variety of industries from mining equipment to bottling plants, sports stadium roofs to sugar facilities, and cranes to airport baggage handling equipment. In fact, just about anywhere in the world that you see motion, SEW is likely to be in the background providing that motion.
SEW in Australia
From our first office in Tullamarine opening in 1982, SEW-EURODRIVE has grown from strength to strength in Australia. One office has given way to a network of locations, with premises in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Far North Queensland. Now, customers from around the country have access to localized facilities for application engineering, product support, repairs and spare parts.
Most recent was the addition of a DriveAcademy school for drive engineering. Australian end users and system integrators alike are now able to access the same in-depth technical training syllabus used to educate SEW-EURODRIVE's own engineers.
More than ever, SEW is global yet local. Millions of dollars of our German engineered components are stored in our Australian warehouses, ready to be assembled and delivered where they're needed. Customers don't want to wait, and thanks to the SEW-pioneered modular concept, they don't have to.
The modular concept
SEW-EURODRIVE's most important innovation came in 1965 when then-owner Ernst Blickle developed the modular concept for gearmotors. The modular concept relies on the theory of thousands of configurations being possible from just a small number of standardized components. Components are manufactured in a small number of central locations before being shipped around the globe to localized assembly centres. The small number of manufacturing facilities ensure a global standard of quality while local assembly centres provide an ability to be close to the customer and accelerate delivery times.
This is an SEW advantage that lives on today and it is on these foundations that a company has been built. SEW-EURODRIVE has since been synonymous with innovation, availability and service.
